Asanda Benya is a senior lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of Cape Town. Her work focuses on the intersection of gender, class and race. Her current research looks at women underground miners, women in mining communities across South Africa. She has published in a number of local and international academic journals. She is part of the Africa-Wide Feminist Labs. She serves as an editorial board member of the Ubuntu Dialogues Project and as a board member of several national NGOs such as the Surplus People Project and the Bench-Marks Foundation.
